For our wedding, our officiant adapted a poem for my husband and I. I included it in this portrait I drew of us. It was my gift to him for our first wedding anniversary.
May the sun bring us new energy by day
May the moon softly restore us by night
May the rain wash away any worries we may have
May the breeze blow new strength into our beings
All the days of our lives we will walk gently through the world and know it’s beauty and ours

The original, or a version of it, goes like this…
May the sun bring you new energy by day
May the moon softly restore you by night
May the rain wash away any worries you may have
May the breeze blow new strength into your being
May you walk gently through the world and know it’s beauty all the days of your life

There is debate whether this is an actual Apache Blessing, or a quote from a book, or a movie inspired from the book.
I’ve always felt this way about quotes. How can we be sure the person actually said it? Were they the first person who said it? π€ I’m sure they aren’t the only one. There’s so many versions of the same concept.
For example
“The only thing guaranteed in life is death.”
Who said it? Benjamin Franklin? Kanye West?Christopher Bullock?
“Nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes.” – Benjamin Franklin
“Nothing in life is promised except death.” – Kanye West
“Tis impossible to be sure of anything but death and taxes.” – Christopher Bullock
They all said different versions of the same concept.
I haven’t actually seen anyone “assigned” to “The only thing guaranteed in life is death.” Does that mean I’ll get credit for it?
“The only thing guaranteed in life is death.” – Cool Esse
I did not come up with this concept, neither did Benjamin Franklin. Plenty of others said or thought along the same lines before Kanye and even Christopher Bullock, back in 1716.
Regardless, we like the words or concepts.
So, we quote them and the way they say it.
Anyone can say anything they like and we can quote them.
Believing someone actually said something if you didn’t hear it from them, read it in something they’ve written or see someone say it in a movie is up to you.

oh how beautiful whoever was the first to say or write it, and how lovely you created the artwork to accompany it.

First of all, your drawing is so amazing. I wish this was the desire of all politicians “May you walk gently through the world.” If everyone did that, there would be no need for war. Your thoughts on quotes are so true, too. I love how you brought in all the different versions of the same quote. Of course, it’s true. Only a few wise people are really good at coming up with something totally unique, and they are probably so well-read in literature and information that the majority of us are not, and are also famous for something. Quotes are like literary sound bites. You have to be somewhat well known for anyone to care about what you say. You made me think, Cool. Thanks for joining in WQW.

I love that picture you drew. Beautiful. And the poem is pretty too. Good point on your thoughts about who originated quotes. Getting caught up on commenting from last weeks challenge.
